Halloween Decorations - Book Bunting

Halloween has never been that big in Australia.
Growing up as a kid- it wasn't celebrated here at all.
I can't help thinking that we really missed out on something.

Halloween, Day of the Dead, All Saints Day.
All over the world and through history, it has had its various spine-chilling forms.

Essentially I think its popularity comes down to two things:
(1) We love being scared
(2) We love dressing up.
Maybe there is a another reason...

Over the last few years there has been a slow eerie change!
More and more Australians are joining in the fun,

We are going to the neighbours house,
so I've made them a little gift....

I found this ABC book for 10 cents at the local op shop.

Then cut the triangles.
Sewed on the ribbon.

I used the book cover to make into an envelope.
Stitched the sides.
Made a tag.

So, what is the other reason Halloween is still so relevant and popular?
I think it reminds us of our mortality.
It gives us a chance to remember,
 to grieve, to laugh.

Happy Halloween!

  1. What a beautiful, thrifty idea. I love it!

  2. What a great idea! I have never seen anyone do that - it is a fantastic way to use a colorful book! I am sorry that you have missed out on Halloween - it was always a fun holiday for me, and for my kids as well. I hope it catches on!

  3. That is just fabulous! And you used all parts of the book, so no waste! Very clever!

  4. What a creative use of an old book! I love that you used the cover to make an envelope.

  5. I love this idea! I often find books at thrift shops that have terribly worn covers but the inside pages are in great shape..... maybe my next project will be Christmas bunting from an old Christmas book?

  6. This is awesome! How colorful! I wish I had seen this before Halloween was over... but maybe I can find a cute Christmas book and do the same!

Thanks for stopping by my page and commenting :) It was very much appreciated!

  7. Thanks for your lovely comments, and yes, I already have some Christmas books in the pipeline for exactly this purpose.

  8. Love this so much!! thanks for sharing

I enjoy hearing from you.
